Terrain – 2025

Sector 32

Also known as The Graveslums, this huge set of sci-fi and desert terrain grew over a period of years. I had very limited space and time, but soon after the pandemic started I began crafting modular pieces for my dream set of terrain. More and more was added until there were well over a dozen pieces. They were all unpainted, though.
By 2025 I had a dedicated space for creative work, and I used ArcaneCon as a deadline to face my fear and paint the whole set in around two months. The result is a sprawling industrial slum built on top of ancient ruins and tombs.

Some of the pieces were made to be more generic so they could be used for various games. The rocky cliffs have no vegetation or other features that can limit what scale they represent.

The boards themselves came late in the project. One board is double sided, featuring a river on one side and an empty desert on the other. The second board has a gap underneath so that lights can be placed under the high-tech machinery in the center.

Many of the modular pieces have cutouts underneath for tea lights or other small electric lights.

Here are a few shots of the set before it was painted. There are zero 3d printed parts and almost no store-bought scenic elements. Even the lasercut barrels and crates were designed and cut by me.
